Whether you’ve been home in Vienna, VA for several years or you’re new to the area, it’s always worthwhile to invest yourself in the community. Vienna has a variety of organizations to get involved with, but Lerner Arrowood Parc has highlighted the following six that are sure to

improve your quality of life.

How to Get Involved in Vienna, VA

Vienna Youth Sports

If you’re a sports fan, look no further than Vienna Youth Inc. Whether you are looking to find your kids an after-school activity or want to get involved yourself, the VYI is one of the best options to enjoy while making Vienna, VA home. VYI is a youth sports organization that provides athletic opportunities for children ranging from kindergarten to high school. The sports available are basketball, cheerleading, football, lacrosse, rugby, track, volleyball and wrestling. The organization also encourages good character development by offering an annual college scholarship to high school students with a good GPA and excellent history of sportsmanship and community service.

Audubon Society of Northern Virginia

Less than twenty minutes away from your Vienna apartment lies a golden opportunity for nature lovers. Over 150 years after his death, John James Audubon’s legacy continues to live on through societies that bear his name. The Audubon Society of Northern Virginia, based in Reston, VA, is a chapter of the national organization and seeks to conserve and restore the local ecosystems for the benefit of biological diversity.

Join Vienna Volunteer Fire Department

Since 1903, Vienna’s Volunteer Fire Dept. has served its community during the trials of fires and other emergencies. The VVFD works in partnership with the Fairfax County Fire & Rescue Department, who provides 24-hour staffing of paid firefighters and paramedics. If you want to get involved, VVFD’s volunteers help in operational, administrative and auxiliary roles and are included on the career fire engine and paramedic unit.

Get Musical in the Vienna Community Band

Music is an integral but often overlooked part of life. If you’re a musician who is looking to do more than play at home, the Vienna Community Band welcomes new musicians for all sections. It is currently looking for clarinets, bassoons, and percussion musicians. The band plays all over Vienna throughout the year. For the holidays, they performed the Nutcracker in a free concert at the DeSales Hall of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church.

Feel Creative with Vienna Arts Society

Guided by the principle of “enriching our community through the arts,” the VAS is a vessel that provides Vienna, VA artists a chance to learn, create, and share interests. When you join the VAS, you’re encouraged to explore all artistic mediums through workshops, demos, lectures and classes located at the Art Center. The VAS produces several art exhibitions every year for several mediums.

Get Involved with Vienna Theatre Company

The VTC is the resident non-profit company for theater performances and is based at the Vienna Community Center. Their goal is to bring together residents of Vienna and neighboring communities through the fun and art of live performances. Performers audition to take part in such events as Eclectic Essentials II, a dynamic collection of one act plays that involve dictators at the DMV, dancing at a country music bar, and determined individuals attempting to enter Elvis Presley’s beloved Graceland. For those who prefer to be behind the scenes, you’re encouraged the help with production, sound, publicity, set and costume design, and anything else required to make the next show better than the last.
